HYPOGRAM
Established in 2024, our organisation seeks to collaborate with and support artists and individuals interested in photochemical media practices and technologies. We aim to foster a community that values and advocates for the continuation of hand-made photochemical and cinematic expression. Through our workshops, we provide opportunities for participants to expand their skills and knowledge, bringing together those who share a passion for these creative possibilities.
UPCOMING WORKSHOPS
PHOTO-CHEMICAL DEVELOPING
35MM BLACK AND WHITE REVERSAL SLIDE FILM
WHAT TO EXPECT
In this four-hour induction, we take you through the necessary steps for developing 35mm film. We will cover how to load film into a processing tank in a changing bag, how to prepare the chemistry, how to turn film negatives into positives and how to turn your roll of film images into slides ready for projecting.
WHY
Our developing workshops are aimed at those wishing to process films who typically have no access to a darkroom. We show what tools and skills are necessary so that you can successfully develop film at home, demonstrating that it doesn’t have to be a daunting or difficult activity.
This particular workshop is intended to situate analogue photography in the domain of projection. Making prints from negatives in the darkroom is rewarding, but what about something more immediate, like seeing your images projected onto a wall straight from the very piece of film that was exposed inside the camera? The E-6 reversal process allows for this. There is no need to master darkroom printing, and no need for a computer or scanner.
WHERE & WHEN
Saturday 26th April 2025, 13:00 - 17:00
In the Verkstad at Lille Stan, Bragegatan 4b, Malmö, 21429
WHAT’S INCLUDED
A 36-exposure 35mm black and white reversal film will be sent to you at least two weeks before the workshop. The film delivers outstanding, sharp black & white images that can be projected huge onto a screen or wall. The film can also be manipulated, for example, with coloured inks or by scratching areas of the emulsion away.
An introduction to film development with access to all the required equipment and chemistry to develop your film and turn your images into positive slides (sleeve and slide mounts provided).
WHO
We are a new organisation working to make analogue photography and film-making more accessible. We seek to collaborate with and support artists, makers, and enthusiasts interested in photo-chemical media practices and technologies, fostering a community that values and advocates for the continuation of hand-made photo-chemical and cinematic expression. Perhaps you are new to film and analogue photography, or you have done some developing before and want to explore deeper by trying the reversal process. Many of the steps are the same as regular black-and-white developing, so by the end, you will know what you’ll need and how to DIY develop at home.
COST
750kr - Paying in advance ensures you get a black and white slide film sent to you at least two weeks before the workshop and reserves your place.
NOTE
6 places are available at the workshop. If you wish to participate, email hypogramstudio@gmail.com with your name, phone number and the address to which you would like your film sent. You will receive a Swish payment request. Once the payment is received, you will receive an email confirming your place. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have.
Don’t forget to bring your film with you on the day!
